I know of no other tree whose essential form persists for so long after its demise. It is one of the most 'sculptural' species that I have experienced directly.

My Own Personal Relationship
Almost twenty years ago, I excavated the remains of a stump. It was the beginning of a fascination- with a tree and its wood.
